The state of Texas is just one of the many states that have implemented the Freedom of Information Act. With this, the public documents of the state are even more accessible than before. Texas marriage records are one of the documents that the local residents of Texas can request whenever they need it.

There are several reasons why the marriage records of Texas are being requested. One of the primary uses of such document is for genealogy research. It is used by researchers as a reference in updating the information found on the family history records. Another use of such document is for government transactions. One may not be able to process request such as insurance if the marriage certificate is not presented during the application. Also, when the couple wants to update the dependents list, their marriage certificate is also required. Filing for divorce would call for the marriage license of the couple. If this is not presented, there may have been no marriage that took place in the first place.

As the name implies, the marriage records of Texas contains details about the marriage of a couple in the state. One would know the complete names of the bride and the groom. The date and the county or the place where the marriage took place is also one of the important information that is indicated on the certificate. Additional information includes the names of the couple's parents as well as the witnesses of the marriage. Also, the occupation of the bride and the groom are also indicated on the record together with their personal information.

In order to obtain a copy of a marriage certificate in Texas, one has to pay $20 for the processing fee. Only marriages which have been registered since January 1966 are available in the state. One should know that only the bride or the groom is allowed to get a copy of their personal document. If both the bride and the groom cannot request it for some valid reason, the immediate family member is allowed.

One cannot get a certified copy of the marriage license at the office of the Vital Records Section of Texas. The office only helps verify the information and they will give you instructions as to where to get the record. One can only get it from the county clerk office where the couple got married. If going to any office is not possible at all, mail request is also possible but it is expected that the results are delivered after a few days since it was sent.

To avoid the long wait, one can search for the records with the help of the Internet. Not only that the records can be obtained faster compared to the traditional method, there is also no need to go to any office just to file the request, thus making it convenient for many. Public marriage records are now easier to obtain since it can be requested even at home. Many residents of Texas prefer to go online instead of going to the office to avoid the hassle.
