Texas Marriage License Available Online

If you are looking for a place in the US to get married, then the best state to do so is in Texas. Texas is one of the few states that offer marriage license to non-residents. The state is also one of the few that allows common marriage and proxy marriage though it does not allow same gender marriages as well as relatives/cousin marriage. The Texas state provides access to Texas marriage records and one can request for a verification letter of marriage by contacting the Bureau of Vital Statistic of the state.

In securing a marriage license, couples can obtain the license by visiting the county clerk of the place where they intend to marry. The couples should show valid IDs as proof of their identity. They can show their passports or driver's license for verification. Should one of the couple not be able to show himself/herself to the county clerk; a proxy can stand for them. Proxy marriages are allowed in the State; however, they should present an absentee form and one valid ID of the person they are stepping in for. Once the clerk of the county releases the marriage license, the couple has to wait a minimum period of 72 hours before they can get married. The 72-hr period is waived when the couple has attended the free seminar provided by the State.

The marriage license costs $60 though in some counties, the fee is $71. Fees vary depending on the county. To determine the actual amount, one can call the county clerk office to learn the latest fee. Individuals who are about to get married can also have the marriage fee waived if they attend the seminar which lasts about 8 hour and can be taken in parts. The seminar must be completed prior to applying for a marriage license.

For 17- to 18-year-olds who want to get married, they may do so if they (1) obtain a parental consent from their parents. They have to download a form and have their parents sign it. (2)If one of the couple is divorced, he/she should present a certified copy of the divorce and (3) the couple has obtained a court order from the place of residency of their parents.

Informal marriages or common marriages are also common and couples can get married in Texas. The state allows the marriage to be declared as a "common law marriage" if the couple can prove that they are married by (1) filing an Informal Marriage Declaration, (2) the couple lives together and agrees that they are married and (3) they act and present themselves as a couple to other people.

The marriage license is valid for only thirty days upon the issuance of the county clerk. Marriages anywhere in Texas are allowed so one can have a ceremony after the waiting period anywhere they want. For a request of marriage license, couples can request a certified true copy of their license from the county clerk or from one of the many online providers. Requesting for a marriage license through the internet is one of the fastest ways to do so as well as the most convenient.
