Top Responsibilities Of A Church Building Committee

By Beryl Dalton

Any activity requires planning. Regardless of how small it is, somebody or a group needs to head the cause in order to see it come to fruition. Those individuals who have the skills and willingness to head the venture are those same people who play vital roles in the success of the activity. They can be anyone within the community.

In a community, one of the basic concern is the creation of a house of prayer. It is vital for the whole members to find a place where they can pray and socialize with their co believers. But the creation of this establishment is not that easy. Church building committee is created to address this issue.

Individuals who comprise this group are those who have the technical skills for construction and the head pastor or minister of the church. They have specific roles to do and are proven to be efficient on that field. Specifically, here are their major roles.

Facilitates the overall construction of the establishments. The committee is headed by a chairman who supervises the entire process. He holds meetings, sets agenda, and heads important discussions related to the project. They plan and considers every aspect of the construction and creates contingencies in case a problem will occur on their main blue print.

Making of project design. A design is important to ensure that every detail of the construction is looked into. This is where they planners deal with the specifics. From the needed material to the tools and number of people that need to be hired to do the manual labor, everything is addressed here.

Handling of the budget. The design will reveal the necessary things to be bought. It is then the role of the finance committee to check the materials required for the construction, identify the needed expense and cross reference it to the money that they have at hand. They are the ones who inform the group if there is a need to raise more money to buy all the needed tools.

Informing the whole community. Of course, the members of the church cannot be left out. You have the right to know and the committee makes sure that you do. They release announcements on bulletins informing the people about the progress of the construction. Any updates are relayed to the public for transparency.

Funding. There are times when the current money that they have is not enough to fund every expense. This is where fund raising comes in. A separate person is in charge of this and thinks of ways to get funding for the project. It could be a concert for a cause, an exhibit, and any other projects that the community can find helpful.

Be of help to your community by being attentive on its current ventures. Who knows, you might have the skills that they are looking for. Ask other members and get involved. You have something to offer. Share what you have to the rest of the believers.
