Production is usually done in large numbers or individually for specific individuals. Rich people and celebrities usually prefer to have their gowns customized to suit their needs and possibly create a new fashion.

No specific academic courses exist for becoming a gown designer. Aspirants can get training in bachelor or associate degree in fashion design program. Fashion design program includes classes in bridal design, sewing techniques, marketing, and sales skills. Students are also required to engage in competitions and internships. Other events include annual fashion show.

Becoming an expert in bridal gowns requires certain skills. Drawing and sewing skills are mandatory. Additionally, possessing skills and knowledge in graphic design software and computer aided design software helps in creating gown patterns before one can produce them. Interacting and communicating with clients effectively requires good communication skills.
