Information Concerning Arabs In The US

By Mary Wright

Apart from any countries, the US is the only country that contains people from diverse backgrounds. According to ancient history, they migrated into the country years back. Slowly, they engaged themselves in intermarriages to bring forth people who are at present. The country has set up policies to enable each one of them to go through ordinary life process. That is why there are a number of inhabitants from African American, Indian Americans, and Chinese Americans to Arabs in the US.

The number of Arab Americans is on the increase as they continue to give birth and obtain US citizenship. The US census bureau conducted a population analysis and concluded that by the year 2000, 1.8 million of them were made up of Arab Americans. They have concluded that the number is set to increase with time. Nevertheless, this figure is not accurate enough and this continues to draw a lot of controversies. In fact, the Arab American Institute believes in multiplication of numbers in the next decade.

Out of the total number of countries distributed all over the world, only 22 countries are considered to be Arabic speaking. It is evident that their political affiliations, religious backgrounds, education backgrounds as well as cultural practices define who they are. That is why it is impossible to tell the exact number of people belonging to the same origin. Even though they are Muslims by nature, a study has indicated that they are converting to Christianity and other denominations.

The most common perception is that they come from primitive backgrounds. Hence they cannot take part in activities related to building the economy. Hopefully, most renowned structural engineers, artists and lawyers belong to Arab American origin. They are able to meet deadlines and work just as hard as ordinary citizens.

It is important to mention the countries that are associated with these people. These countries comprise of Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and Syria. It is evident that people from these backgrounds are distributed all over the ten states within the US. Most of them have acquired citizenship by birth and naturalization.

In line with education, most Arab American adults have attained at least high school diploma. This translates to an average of 89%. Approximately 45% of adults are holders of Bachelors or Post graduate degree. Only 12% of the population is made up of students found in the kindergartens.

They are very hard working just like many other citizens. This is quite evident as they are specialized in ordinary fields such as secretarial, sales, managerial and administrative. Of the total population, only 85% work in the private sector while 12% are civil employees. The lowest earnings in income for an average Arab American is $56,331 which indicates that most of them are still living below poverty level.

It is quite evident that these people will continue to make headlines owing to their enormous contribution towards American development. Nevertheless, their countries of origin continue to face war atrocities. Even so, they should not be linked to various terrorist attacks just because they are linked to these countries. This provides people with insight as to what this community entails.
