When Consulting A Divorce Attorney Person County NC Residents Signal The End Of Their Marriages

By Linda Long

One can probably be forgiven for thinking that marriage has long not been a sacred institution anymore. Marriages simply do not last any longer and the rate at which couples are getting divorced rises every year. It is sad that there are so many lawyers that do nothing but handle these cases and it has become necessary to establish courts that do nothing but hear them. Nevertheless, without a divorce attorney Person County NC Couples may struggle to cope.

When two people get married they often see it as a romantic and spiritual ceremony. It is, in fact, also a legal agreement between the two partners. When the marriage falls apart, it is not always a simple matter to dissolve the union. Many laws come into play and the couple has to make many decisions and come to an agreement on the terms of their separation. Only then can the legal agreement be set aside.

Unfortunately, many divorcing couples do not communicate and they often become involved in a bitter battle of wills, each partner refusing to compromise in order to come to some agreement. In such cases the matter is contested and will have to be presented to court. Such proceedings are open to the public and the divorcing couple has no privacy whatsoever. It is an expensive route too.

Thankfully, the majority of divorcing couple realize that it is not in their own best interest to bankrupt themselves with protracted cases and exorbitant legal fees. These are couples that are able to discuss the relevant issues in an adult matter and to come to agreement by being reasonable and willing to compromise. This is a much cheaper and far less painful course of action and they need only one representative.

It is a common misconception that there are rules or laws that require divorcing couples to use a lawyer. This is not the case. They have other options such as making use of specially licensed counselors that are trained to handle divorce agreements. They can only be used in uncontested cases, however. The benefit is that their services are much cheaper than that of lawyers.

When children become part of the equation, divorces can get tricky. The courts will always put the interests of the children above all other matters, however. It is a sad fact that many parents use their children as pawns when they get divorced. This often causes innocent children to believe that they are the cause of the trouble. In some causes such children can be traumatized for many years.

When marriages fall apart some members of the broken marriages sometimes also fall apart. Divorces always cause pain and sometimes more serious conditions such as depression can develop. If a marriage cannot or should not be saved, such as when one partner is abusive or an addict that does not want help, then it may be worthwhile opting for therapy or at least some counseling from a trusted friend or pastor.

Some people reckon that it has become too easy to get divorced and that this is the reason why so many marriages fail. The matter is much more complex, however. Society has changed in many ways and people no longer adhere to the moral and values that were so dear to their parents and grandparents. Stricter rules are unlikely to lower the divorce rate.
