The Function Of Food For The Poor In Haiti

By Marissa Velazquez

Food is something that every man lives and works for. It is as vital for a human being's existence as oxygen or water. Where great amount of foodstuffs get wasted each day, a significant part of the earth's total population spend days without having a bite to eat. Food for the Poor in Haiti is an organization that aims to feed a large number of people for their health and survival. Here are some reasons why sustenance is so important.

The smallest component of the human body is the cell. Every part of the body is made up of cells. In order for these cells to be healthy and to operate correctly, they must be made of the right nutrients and must get the right fuel to function. Since there are trillions of cells which perform all the various functions of the body, each one must be strong and healthy for an individual to continue strong cellular building blocks.

Energy to take care of all of the necessary bodily activities is provided by the nutritional intake. Whether you are walking, sleeping, running or eating, your body requires fuel. Carbohydrates in the foods that are consumed provide the energy components to operate efficiently. When there is not enough fuel, the body is not able to do the most basic activities.

The human body requires many different nutrients in order to be healthy. The foods that are consumed include the basic nutrients such as vitamins, proteins and minerals. Each of these components is important for the specific tasks they accomplish. For instance, you need to have iodine in the diet for a healthy thyroid gland and vitamin A for your vision.

Your immune system health needs sustenance. A good immunity system is essential for the body to stay away from the germs that cause diseases. When a germ enters a human's body, the immunity system kills the germ by the help of white blood cells and saves the body to become a victim to the disease. Here too, healthy foods are essential to build a strong immunity system.

Your brain needs sustenance, just as the rest of the physical part of you. The brain is responsible for concentrating on the tasks at hand and for remembering what needs to be retained. The right foods feed the brain so that it can operate the your physical actions as well as the mental processes. Nutrients that help brain health are beneficial for the entire system.

Obviously, lack of foods has many negative effects. The effect of malnutrition can be just as devastating. Weakness, illness and even death are all part of the results of not eating. A steady supply of nutritional substances is required to avoid illness or worse.

Adequate and healthy nutrition is a requirement for survival. Food for the Poor in Haiti uses this concept as the guiding principle for its operation. Actions to improve the quality and amount of sustenance are identified and implemented. Where children are involved, adequate nutrition helps with growth and development. Countrywide focused programs are the delivery means.
