Will There Be A Muslim Antichrist

By Lisa Williamson

The controversy surrounding end-times has pitted Muslims against Christians. This has resulted from scriptures in both the Koran and the bible that seem to suggest the possibility of a Muslim antichrist. This is a theological puzzle that is yet to be solved. To get more insight into the topic, it is important to peruse through literature from the two religions in order to make a personal conclusion.

There is an indication of the twelfth imam who disappeared at a tender age. The Koran points out that his escape was prompted by persecution that befell the people at that time. He is said to have fled into the desert but will return at a certain point before judgment befalls humanity. This is what Christians flip around to claim that a beast will come from the Islamic world.

In the bible, the antichrist is said to rule before judgment comes upon the earth. The relevant reading for this is the fourth verse of chapter thirteen in the book of Revelations. His promise of peace to Israel for seven years will herald the reign of the beast. Before this period of peace has lapsed, the treaty will be broken and anarchy will reign.

As a mark of the beast, the treaty on peace for Israelis shall be violated. By breaking the treaty, the beast will take over reigns and demand to be regarded as God. His rule will be that of a despot. These are the signs that will indicate that Christ is returning for the second time. A close reading of the two scriptures has been interpreted to suggest that the twelfth Imam will be the expected beast.

Daniel puts a twist to the debate by mentioning the return or rise of the Roman Empire as signal of antichrist rule. The kingdom will be rebuilt with the king exercising a lot of intrigues, deceit and claiming to be God. There is similarity between the reading of Revelation and Daniel on the antichrist. This is where evidence seems to point away from Muslims.

It is Daniel who exonerates Muslims from this accusation through mention of the Roman Empire. This empire is based in Europe and not the Middle East where most Muslims would be found. There has been continuing hostility between Muslims and Israel which would make a truce of that nature difficult to execute. This means that Muslims would not initiate the seven year treaty that will herald the reign of the beast. They are only likely to destroy Israel.

There is a lot of speculation regarding the beast. From the two scriptures, only a person with acceptance among Jews and Muslims would become an antichrist. Such a possibility rests upon a half-cast. The situation would allow Muslims to view him as their lost twelfth imam while Jews regard him as one of their own.

The mystery of the antichrist being Muslim remains a construction of cross reading the bible and the Koran. Christians are advised to remain cautious and test anyone who comes in the name of the Father. The only way to identify the true leaders is if they confess Christ as the Lord.
