Why Many People Are Trying To Get The HOPCC Exposed

By Gwen Lowe

The Christian faith consists of numerous congregations, sects, splinter movements and churches that all believe that they are the ones following the true faith. It is sad to see that churches often attack each other, even in public. In recent history several sects have become the target of severe criticism and history have shown that in some cases such criticism were valid. Currently, many people are doing their utmost to see the HOPCC exposed.

Even a rudimentary internet search will reveal several websites dedicated to the exposure of the House of Prayer Christian Church. There are even Twitter and Facebook groups dedicated to exposing the sect as evil, unchristian and cruel. In many cases those levelling the criticism were members of the House of Prayer at one time or family and friends of members.

One of the main criticisms is that the church apparently expects its members to donate all their worldly goods. Some critics allege that they were required to donate even their homes to the church and one witness say that their home was allocated to another member of the church. In some cases members were even required to quit their jobs and work for the church full time.

Many critics complain that the church aims to break up families. Young members are indoctrinated to believe that they must cast away their family and loved ones because the church can provide in all their needs. Parents have testified that their children cut off all contact once they become members of the church. Other parents say that their children have changed and that they suspect serious indoctrination.

Critics have not stopped at the publication of their feelings, warnings and opinions. Several efforts have been made to institute a full examination of the House Of Prayer and its affairs. Thus far, however, no formal investigations have been undertaken. The attitude of the authorities is that there is no clear indication that any crimes are committed

The official website of the church states clearly that everybody connected to their seminary are required to reject all affairs related to the secular world. Instead, they are required to direct all their efforts into spiritual growth, learning and the furthering of the church goals. Critics say that this statement clearly show that those members are not allowed to own anything.

The church itself does not seem to react to the criticisms levelled against it. They have published a number of extremely positive testimonials on their website but, once again, critics ridicule these testimonies, saying that members are indoctrinated and cowed into providing their testimonies. The church itself maintains that they simply wish their members to pray and to attend as many services as is possible.

Those defending the church point out that some of the criticism levelled against the church come perilously close to hate speech. Rude language and allegations bordering on slander are common. They maintain that this is a sure sign of envy and hatred and that most of the attacks are from disgruntled and envious previous members. Defenders of the church urge the public to see through these criticisms and to ignore unproven allegations.
