Florida Marriage Records Free Copy Online

By Claire Dowell

The implementation of the Freedom of Information Act has mandated the local government of Florida to allow its residents to obtain a copy of their public document whenever they need it. One of the documents which have been opened to the residents of the state is the Florida Marriage Records.

Transactions in the government usually call for a marriage certificate. Without it, one may have hard time processing the request. Transactions such as insurance claims and other legal matters which may involve both spouses such as dependent declaration would need marriage certificate. Ironically, it is also one of the important files required when a couple decides to separate. Genealogy research is also another use of the file since it is used as one of the primary sources of information needed to update the family tree. Without it, the family tree may not be updated thus may have problems tracing one's ancestors.

As the name implies, a marriage certificate would contain information about the union of a dating couple. Their names and the names of their parents are documents on the file. Other personal details would include their birth place and birth date. One would know when and where the marriage was registered or conducted. Additional information would include the names of the people who were witnesses of the union.

Requesting for a copy of a marriage certificate would only cost $5. Records which have been registered since the year 1917 can be obtained at the vital records Section at the department of Health. Records before the given year are only available at the county office where the couple has registered their marriage. Many would prefer to request for their license at the county office since it does not take that long to get the document unlike requesting it from the state office.

Only the couple and their immediate family members are given access to the marriage certificate. One has to provide the accomplished request form and their personal information to have the request processed. By providing all the necessary information, it can help hasten the retrieval process. One may need to wait at least 2-3 weeks for the certificate to be released and sent to the requesting individual. One can add $10 to rush the service and get the record after 3 days only. However, this can be avoided by doing the search online.

The Internet is now being utilized, not only by private individuals but also the government, to store information and deliver it to the public conveniently. Marriage license records are also one of the documents that can be obtained through the Internet. This method is chosen by many because of its fast and convenient way to get the needed document. There is no need to go to any office since the request can be done anywhere that has Internet connection and the results are obtained almost automatically. There are websites that offer to do the search for free and some would charge a reasonable service fee. Many still go for the paid option because of the quality results they can get from it.
