Considerations When You Join A Church

By Anita Ortega

It is important that the belief of the congregation coincide with yours. Of course, you do join a church whose values and systems are contradicting with yours. That just does not follow. Ask your friends and family if they know of a good place that you can go in for this. It is highly possible that they know something.

So if you log into the internet right now, you are sure to find some congregations that you can be a member of. They have online portals such as websites, Facebook pages, Twitter and even Instagram accounts that you can follow. Once you followed them, you get updates of recent announcements and activities and worship schedules.

If you still have contact with these people, then go to them for help. Contact them via snail mail, email, phone or whatever means as long as you can get to communicate with them about this matter. It is extremely important to get some recommendations from people especially those who are familiar in the area, who are also members of the religious group or who have attended or gone in to the same place before.

There are only two things. The place could be near to your apartment or house or your work place. These two locations are strategic to you. Your starting point could your home or work place. You can attend services or swing by after work. It is much better if you can talk to them in person.

If you and this colleague have the same religious affiliation, then it is alright for you to approach him for recommendations. Of course, you will not ask help from people who have different religious affiliations from you. If they had to recommend a place of worship, it would have to be their place. Presumably, not everybody will be like that.

Even religious groups have requirements or policies that they impose on new members. You cannot be a member if you do not qualify in the requirements. Approach a representative. Make sure that this is an authorized representative. Some congregations give examinations to new membership applicants.

The examination only serves to know the history of religious affiliation of the applicant, what he knows about the congregation, possible reasons of joining and among other things. It is understandable to feel lost in the city especially if you are new here. The city of Denver CO is the largest US state city.

Check if you have families or friends who are from your place. If there are none, try calling friends and families if they are familiar with the new location that you are in right now. It is possible that your friends have also families that live in the area where you are currently residing.

The congregations have websites. You can check the websites for information. Through the website you will learn about the different services that the place is offering, the schedule of the worship, outreach programs that they do, bible classes and other related programs that you can be a member of.
